When the United States Mint first issued Morgan Silver Dollars in 1878, three branch mints were involved in striking the coins. In 1879, a fourth branch mint joined in the production of the coins with the New Orleans Mint striking Morgan Silver Dollars. In a new collection of silver for sale at the United States Mint, 2021 Morgan Silver Dollar bullion coins are available in five variations honoring the 100th anniversary of the final release of Morgan Dollars in 1921. Today, 2021 (P) O Privy Morgan Silver Dollar Coins are available to you online from JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
Five branch mints contributed to the coining of Morgan Silver Dollars between 1878 and 1904, as well as the final 1921 release. Only two of those mints issued the coins in all years: Philadelphia and San Francisco. The mint with the next closest longevity was the New Orleans Mint. Morgan Silver Dollars were struck with “O” mint marks at the New Orleans Mint from 1879 to 1904, making the first and last years of issues the only ones the New Orleans Mint was not involved in.
All of the 2021 (P) O Privy Morgan Silver Dollars available here come with a capsule to house the coin. The coin and its capsule are shipped inside of black presentation boxes from the United States Mint that include a Certificate of Authenticity. The New Orleans Mint ceased operations in 1909. These modern Morgan Silver Dollar bullion coins were produced by the Philadelphia Mint with a historic “O” mint mark in honor of the New Orleans Mint.
Lady Liberty is featured on the obverse of 2021 O Privy Morgan Silver Dollars. This iconic left-profile relief of Liberty was designed by George T. Morgan, who in 1878 was just starting his career at the United States Mint as an assistant engraver. When the Morgan Silver Dollar returned to production one final time in 1921, George T. Morgan was still working for the US Mint, having risen to the position of Chief Engraver of the United States Mint.
In the reverse design of the 2021 (P) O Privy Morgan Silver Dollars is the heraldic eagle of the United States. This design features a bald eagle in front-facing relief with the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace in its talons.
