When the United States Mint first introduced the Morgan Silver Dollar Coin in 1878, three mints were operational in the production of the coins. In 1879, a fourth mint joined the production process with the reopening of the New Orleans Mint. From 1879 to 1904, the New Orleans Mint was a prominent issuer of Morgan Silver Dollars.
The New Orleans Mint was first opened in 1838 and remained operational until 1861 and the outbreak of the US Civil War. The mint would remain closed throughout the Civil War and the Reconstruction era. When the mint reopened in 1879, it immediately joined the production of Morgan Dollars. The only years the New Orleans Mint did not issue Morgans were 1878 when the series started and 1921 when the final Morgan Dollar was issued. The New Orleans Mint closed permanently in 1909.
Liberty is on the obverse of all 2021 O Privy Morgan Silver Dollar Coins. This effigy of Liberty was created in 1878 by George T. Morgan and depicts Liberty in left-profile relief with a Phrygian cap on her head. She also wears the coronet crown and a laurel wreath.
The heraldic eagle of the United States is on the reverse side of 2021 O Privy Morgan Dollar Coins. This image was also created by George T. Morgan and shows the bald eagle in front-facing relief. The eagle is shown without the US national shield, but does clutch the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace in its talons. This side has an honorary O privy mark representing the historic New Orleans Mint, with the Philadelphia Mint striking these modern silver bullion versions of the coin.
These 2021 O Privy Morgan Silver Dollar Coins have Mint State 70 grades. Coins in this condition showcase full, original mint luster and no detractions. The coins in this listing have grades from either the PCGS or NGC and may have various different labels in the slab. Please note that your coins could have matching or varied labels if you buy more than one.
