In 2021, the US Mint is celebrating the 245th anniversary of Washingtons famous crossing of the Delaware River. The maneuver was made by Washington in a bold attempt to strike a big blow at the British Army and boost morale for the American Colonies in the final days of the first year of the Revolutionary War. Washington was able to capitalize on the carousing Hessians who had spent all night December 25, 1776, celebrating Christmas with a feast and drinks. In the early morning hours of December 26, 1776, Washington and his 2,400 Continental Army troops routed the Hessians to strike a critical blow for the American cause.
President George Washington features on the obverse of 2021 George Washington Colorized Quarters. This left-profile portrait was created by John Flanagan in 1932 for the US quarter and was introduced on the 200th anniversary of Washingtons birth.
General Washington is depicted on the reverse field of 2021 George Washington Colorized Quarters. Washington is standing in the foreground directing his forces across the ice-clogged Delaware River toward Trenton, New Jersey. The field has beautiful colorization that captures the blue coat and hat of General Washington, with silhouettes of other Continental regulars in a boat in the background trying to find a way through the ice.
