2021 marks an important centennial celebration in the coining of silver dollars in the United States. Back in 1921, the US silver dollar returned to production after a 17-year hiatus. When coining resumed in 1921, the historic Morgan Silver Dollar design was revived for most of the year before being replaced by the debut of the new Peace Silver Dollar. Today, 2021-D Morgan Silver Dollar Coins are available to you online from JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
Each one of the mints involved in the coining of the original Morgan Silver Dollars is honored in this centennial issue marking the last year of release for circulation Morgan Dollars. In the case of the now-closed Carson City Mint and New Orleans Mint, the Philadelphia Mint issued coins with “CC” and “O” privy marks to honor the 19th-century mints and their contributions to the series. The Philadelphia Mint also issued a coin to mark its role, without a mint mark present. The San Francisco Mint and Denver Mint each issued 2021-dated bullion coins with their respective date marks.
All 2021-D Morgan Silver Dollar Coins come with protective packaging and presentation displays. The coins are housed inside capsules and set within black presentation boxes from the US Mint. There is also a Certificate of Authenticity available with purchase. These particular coins have a “D” mint mark courtesy of the Denver Mint.
On the obverse of 2021-D Morgan Silver Dollars is Lady Liberty. This left-profile portrait shows Liberty with a Phrygian cap on her head, a coronet, and a wreath crown. Her effigy is flanked by 13 stars and was designed by George T. Morgan in 1878.
The reverse face of the 2021-D Morgan Silver Dollar Coins comes with an image of the heraldic eagle of the United States. Also designed by Morgan in 1878, this version shows a bald eagle clutching the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace in its talons, with the bird’s head looking toward the olive branch.
