Chinese Gold Panda Coins are available to purchase annually from the Chinese Mint through authorized dealers around the globe. The coins have been struck by the Chinese Mint since 1982 with four weights, with a fifth weight added in 1983. As of 2016, the coins in the Chinese Panda Series have been struck with weights denoted in Grams rather than Troy oz, a first for a major gold bullion series.
All of the 2021 8 Gram Chinese Gold Panda Coins available through this product listing come in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. Coins in this series and weight are individually packaged at the mint with sealed plastic pouches.
On the obverse side of 2021 Chinese Gold Panda Coins is the same design that has graced the coins since 1982. The exterior façade of the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests is depicted on this face of the coin, along with inscriptions that identify the nation of issue and the date of issue for the coins.
The reverse field of 2021 8 Gram Chinese Gold Panda Coins features the new image of the Giant Panda species that is exclusive to this date mark. Here, an adult panda stands nearby the trunk of a tree as its ambitious young panda cub climbs the trunk of the tree. As the two look at one another, the adult extends a paw to support the cub as it climbs up the base of the tree.
The 2016 transition of the Chinese Gold Panda coins from Troy oz weights to Grams resulted in some minor changes to the actual weight of the coin in Grams and, in some cases, the diameter of the blank. Previously issued as the 1/4 Troy oz coin with a weight of 7.7758 Grams and a diameter of 21.95 MM, the now-8-Gram Gold Panda is heavier at 8 Grams in total and slightly wider at 22 MM.
