The next year, in 2008, the Mexican Mint introduced the 1 Kilo Mexican Silver Libertad. The 1996 introduction of the 5 oz Silver Libertad resulted in a mintage of 20,000 silver coins, with only the 2009 coin released at the height of the Great Recession surpassing that mintage with a figure of 21,000. Recent date marks have seen an uptick toward record levels, with 16,600 and 18,000 coins sold in 2018 and 2019, respectively.
