Dalmatians are one of the world’s most recognized dog breeds, known for their outgoing nature, their speed, and their distinctively beautiful spotted fur. The Cynological Federation, based on images and records from the 16th century, recognized the Dalmatian as an autochthonous (or native) Croatian dog breed in 1994. It’s a breed with a storied history that was particularly popular with coach drivers, who prized the Dalmatian’s ability to bond and become companions for their horses, to keep pace with carriages on long rides, and to alertly guard horses and carts against bandits. The 2021 Colorized Croatia Silver Dalmatian Dog Coin is the first colorized coin ever to be struck by the Croatian Mint.
