Coin Highlights:
One of the many storylines worked into The Simpsons over the course of its three-plus decades on television was the mystery behind Homer’s middle name. For the longest time, viewers knew him as Homer J. Simpson, with only his middle initial featured. It was revealed at one point that this was because Homer did not know his real middle name, only his middle initial. As it turned out, he was at least pronouncing it correctly the entire time. Viewers later found out that Homer’s full name was Homer Jay Simpson.
All of the 2021 2 oz Tuvalu Homer Simpson High Relief Silver Coins are packaged individually inside of clear Perspex cases. Those cases enable easy viewing of both sides of the coin without removal from the protective packaging. The coin and case ship together inside of a Simpsons-themed box and come with a Certificate of Authenticity from the Perth Mint.
Queen Elizabeth II is depicted on the obverse of 2021 Tuvalu Homer Simpson High Relief Silver Coins. The Queen’s effigy shown here is the fourth-generation design from the Royal Mint that was created in 1998 by Ian Rank-Broadley. It depicts the Queen wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara and has been in use on Commonwealth coinage since 1999.
Homer Jay Simpson features in a front-facing portrait in the reverse design of 2021 2 oz Tuvalu Homer Simpson High Relief Silver Coins. This smiling image of Homer features one prominent design detail that few knew right away. Cartoonist Matt Groening is the man behind the characters in the show and he cleverly included his own initials of “MG” in the design of Homer’s hairline near his ear, with the hairline forming the “M” and his ear the “G.”
