The Mexican Mint introduced its silver bullion series in 1982 with only a 1 oz silver coin available as an option for investors. The 1 oz silver coin would remain the only option in this series until 1991 when the first additions were made to the collection. These new coins consisted of fractional-ounce weights of 1/20 oz, 1/10 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/2 oz silver.
Subsequent additions to the Mexican Silver Libertad collection were made in 1996 and 2008. The 1996 addition included these 2 oz Mexican Silver Libertad Coins, as well as a 5 oz silver coin. In 2008, a 1 Kilo version of the coin was added to the series as well. Today, the larger weights in this collection remain more popular than the fractional-ounce coins in terms of annual demand.
The obverse side of 2021 2 oz Mexican Silver Libertad Coins includes a depiction of the modern coat of arms for Mexico. This symbol is based on the Codex Mendoza and has been modified several times during the course of Mexican history. The current iteration features a Mexican golden eagle perched on a prickly pear cactus as it battles against a rattlesnake. Around the design rim, you will notice there are 10 historic versions of the seal present, including the original 1541 Codex Mendoza at the 12-o’clock position in the rim.
On the reverse field of the 2021 Mexican Silver Libertad Coin is a vision of Winged Victory. The female personification of Mexico, Winged Victory is shown from a slight side profile as she holds up a wreath crown in her right hand and clutches broken chains in her left hand down at her side. The background field offers a glimpse of the volcanic mountain peaks of Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl, active volcanic structures visible from Mexico City.
These 2021 2 oz Mexican Silver Libertad coins will ship in protective plastic flips. All of the coins are in Brilliant Uncirculated condition.
