Over the course of several centuries, the people of Germany and Austria lived within the same unified kingdom or nation. From the dawn of the Holy Roman Empire to the formation of the separate German and Austro-Hungarian Empires, the people of Germany and Austria shared both a culture and native tongue. It is only fitting that Germania features alongside Austria in The Allegories Series from JM Bullion.
Round Highlights:
Each 2021 2 oz Germania The Allegories Austria & Germania Silver Round offered here is part of the fourth release in the series and comes with a protective acrylic capsule. The mintage of each of the four weights in this series is different, with the 2 oz round’s mintage of 2,500 rounds just one-tenth that of the 1 oz silver round, despite being the second-highest mintage in the release.
Modern-day Germany and Austria share very close cultural ties as a result of centuries of shared rule. When the Holy Roman Empire was formed during the early Middle Ages, both Germany and Austria fell under its rule. This continued through the dissolution of the empire and founding of the German Confederation. In fact, it wasn’t until 1871 when Prussia unified the German states to form the German Empire that the two weren’t under shared leadership.
The obverse of 2021 Germania The Allegories Austria & Germania Silver Rounds comes with an image of the two female allegories seated next to one another. Austria is featured on the left side of the design with a spear in her right hand. Germania is seated on the right with her left hand on the Reichsschwert. The two hold hands at the center of the design, a symbol of the peace and cultural connection of the two.
On the reverse side of 1 oz Germania The Allegories Austria & Germania Silver Rounds is an effigy of the mint seal. Similar to a heraldic coat of arms, the design features a quartered shield with unique heraldic symbols in each of the quadrants. The shield is topped by an imperial crown and flanked by an oak wreath.
