Known officially as the African Wildlife Series, the Somalia Silver Elephant coin is one of two options now available in the collection. The Somalia Silver Elephant is the oldest option in the series having been introduced back in 1999 as the Zambia Silver Elephant. Until 2003, the coin was issued for that nation under that specific name. Since 2004, the program has continued as the Somalia Silver Elephant. As of 2018, a Somalia Silver Leopard coin has been available as part of the African Wildlife Series as well.
All of the 2021 10 oz Somalia Silver Elephant Coins available in this product listing come in Brilliant Uncirculated condition from the Bavarian State Mint. The coins in this weight are only available with individual packaging that consists of protective plastic capsules.
On the obverse side of the 2021 Somalia Silver Elephant Coins is a depiction of the national coat of arms for the Somali Republic. The Somali coat of arms is featured here with a crowned shield that has spear-point times with crosses in each of those spears. The field of the shield has a background field with horizontal lines and a single star at its center. Beneath the design element, you will find crossed spears and fern leaves draped in a ribbon banner.
The reverse face of 2021 10 oz Somali Silver Elephant Coins includes an image of the African bush elephant. You can identify this elephant as a mature member of the species based on the length of its tusks. Though beautiful, the tusks on African bush elephants have made the species a target of poachers who value the monetary value of the ivory in the tusks more than the life of the world’s largest living land mammal.
