In 2020, the coveted Texas Mint Silver Round Series unveiled a new design program for the collection with the first of four designs honoring the Texas Revolution. The movement that separated Texas from Mexico and established the Republic of Texas, an independent nation prior to its admission into the United States in 1845, is captured in four beautiful, inspiring reverse designs. Now, 2021 1 oz Texas Mint Silver Rounds are available to you for purchase online from JM Bullion.
Round Highlights:
The new Revolution Series from the Texas Mint Silver Round collection offers four distinctive reverse designs depicting pivotal moments from the Texas Revolution of 1835-1836. In the first design of this series, the reverse of the 2020 Texas Mint Silver Round captured the first shots of the war from the Battle of Gonzales as the Texians taunted the Mexican Army to “Come and take” the Gonzales cannon. The second design captures the low-point of the conflict for the Texians, but also the moment that would inspire victory and independence just months later.
Though the Alamo was lost, the battle cry “Remember the Alamo” would live on among the Texan forces and culminate in Texas’ victory over the Mexican Army months later at the Battle of San Jacinto, giving Texas its freedom.
On the obverse of the 2021 Texas Mint Silver Round is the enduring symbol of the series, the outline of the Great State of Texas. This design has varying reliefs and textures across the shape of the state with the well-known Lone Star superimposed over the center of the state.
The reverse field of 2021 1 oz Texas Mint Silver Rounds captures the hand-to-hand combat of the Battle of the Alamo. The Mexican Army moved on the Alamo Mission in San Antonio de Bexar, modern-day San Antonio, to retake the mission. Some 100 brave Texians garrisoned at the Alamo, together with roughly 100 reinforcements, held out for 13 days and fought to the last man as the 1,500-man Mexican Army closed in and eventually breached the walls. The brutality of the Mexican Army in its handling of the eventual capture of the fort enraged Texians and resulted in Americans coming to Texas to join in the Revolution.
