One of the most important annual programs at KOMSCO is the South Korean Gold Tiger. Introduced in 2016, the series of medals includes both gold bullion and silver bullion options, with individual packaging available for the 1 oz gold medal in the series. Right now, 2021 1 oz South Korean Gold Tiger Medals are available to purchase online at JM Bullion.
Medal Highlights:
Each 2021 1 oz South Korean Gold Tiger Medal available here is a Brilliant Uncirculated specimen. These gold bullion medals were produced by KOMSCO with beautiful visuals in mind and will arrive in protective plastic capsules. Each one comes with a presentation box and a Certificate of Authenticity.
The South Korean Tiger Series at KOMSCO comes with 1 oz gold, 1/10 oz gold, and 1 oz silver medals as the primary options. Other weights are available in both gold and silver, but these are primarily restricted to proof releases.
Obverse features of the 2021 South Korean Gold Tiger Medal include a new depiction of the powerful tiger. The largest member of the genus Panthera, the tiger is the true king of the jungle as the largest cat alive today. An apex predator, the tiger has no natural enemies in the wild. While this series started in 2016 with aggressive depictions of the tiger, as of 2020 the designs have taken on a softer note. A small tiger cub was featured in the 2020 design, with a larger cub depicted on the 2021 release. This tiger cub lies in front of a traditional Korean building that represents one of the many Korean National Treasures located in Gangneung.
Reverse designs on 2021 1 oz Gold Tiger Medals continue the same design used throughout this series. Here, a stylized depiction of the entirety of Korean peninsula is laid out in the center of the design field. There is an ornate, textured background field and marks of both the KOMSCO mint mark and a latent security image on this side.
