This consists of an elegant display box and a Certificate of Authenticity. Struck in .9999 pure gold, these specimens are considered restrikes of the original 1701 Trade Dollar produced in the Netherlands province of Overijssel.
The Royal Dutch Mint has a rich history dating back over 450 years. It opened in Utrecht in 1567 and was soon joined by other mints operating in the different Dutch provinces. This formed the basis for the unique Trade Dollar designs, each of which was minted in a different province. Other provinces that produced these coins included Zeeland, Gelderland, and Holland. You can find these historic designs in the current program’s previous releases.
On the obverse side of these coins, we see a heraldic lion design. Across the border, there are inscriptions in Dutch reading Confidens. Dno. Non. Movetvr, which means who trusts in the Lord is not moved. Please note that Dno is an abbreviation of Domino, meaning Lord. The obverse also features concentric circles of beadwork around the legend.
The reverse of 2021 Royal Dutch Mint Lion Gold Coins features a standing knight design. In front of the knight, we see a shield bearing a lion in the rampant position. Inscriptions in Dutch can be found along the rim that read Belg. Pro. Trans. Mon. Arg. Con Foe.
