The Rwandan Wildlife Series debuted in 2008 with the image of a powerful, imposing silverback gorilla, a female gorilla, and a young gorilla. The series has gone on in the years since to catalog a number of other distinctive animal species from the African continent, including but not limited to, the lion, zebra, rhino, cheetah, meerkat, and hippo. Next up for 2021, the rare okapi.
All of these 2021 1 oz Proof Rwandan Okapi Silver Coins are available to you with protective plastic capsules and a Certificate of Authenticity from the mint. With a limited release of just 1,000 silver coins, these are the most sought-after coins in the collection. Each one has frosted design elements with mirrored background fields.
On the obverse side of the 2021 Proof Rwandan Okapi Silver Coins, you will find the coat of arms for the Republic of Rwanda. The coins feature the latest version of the national coat of arms with a traditional, woven basket at the center with additional elements of coffee, sorghum, tribal battle shields, and a rope encircling the entire design element.
The reverse field of 2021 1 oz Proof Rwandan Okapi Silver Coins comes with an image of okapis and the African continent. The outline of the African continent captures a topographic image of the landmass, while the design in the lower-left field features two okapis standing together near a tree.
Okapis are genetically linked to the giraffe and are just one of two members of the Giraffidae family, along with the giraffe. Generally a solitary animal, the okapis will come together during the breeding season to live in small family groups. The okapi is endemic to the Democratic Republic of Congo and is found within the tropical forests of the central, northern, and eastern reaches of the country.
