While the dove is internationally regarded as a symbol of peace, its connections to love date all the way back to the Middle Ages. During the Middle Ages, it was believed that all birds chose their mate on Valentine’s Day. While it is true that many birds do select a mate during the late winter, most actually do so in the late spring and early summer months.
