Dalmatian dogs were officially recognized as a native, or autochthonous, breed of Croatia by the international Cynocological Federation in 1994 based on records and images going back to the 16th century. The breed was historically prized by coach and carriage drivers for its ability to provide companionship to horses and protection for precious cargo, and it has since become one of the most popular dog breeds worldwide. Hence, the Dalmatian dog was a natural choice for the Autochthonous Croatia commemorative coin series.
An exclusive issue in that series, the 2021 Colorized Croatia Gold Dalmatian Dog Coin is one of the first colorized coins ever released by the Croatian Mint. JM Bullion ships this coin to you fully insured against even the remote possibility of loss or damage, and it comes in themed box packaging created by Design Bureau Izvorka Juric and with a Certificate of Authenticity signed by the governor of the Croatian National Bank. With only 101 items in this limited mintage, this piece is sure to be in high demand, so you’ll need to order early to be sure of adding it to your collection.
The obverse side features a colorized portrait of a Dalmatian dog sculpted by Nikola Vudrag, with its sports echoing the shapes of Croatia’s coastal islands. In the backdrop is a stylized sea wave pattern and a partial map of the mainland, joined by a coat of arms, the Cyrillic inscription “1000 kuna,” and “Republika Hrvatska.”
Relief artwork of two Dalmatian dogs, gracefully posed, dominates the reverse. It’s accompanied by the inscriptions “2021,” “Dalmatinski Pas,” and “Canis Dalmaticus.”
