Each coin in this first release depicts a battle scene reenacted from the Battle of Alamance. Named for the Great Alamance Creek, the Battle of Alamance was the final conflict in the War of the Regulation.
The war itself was a series of minor skirmishes in the western counties of the British Colony of North Carolina between 1765 and 1771. The American colonists in those counties viewed the Royal Governor of North Carolina and other provincial authorities as corrupt and too easily swayed by the King of England. Though the conflict was not part of the American Revolution starting in 1776, some historians link the conflict in the War of the Regulation with the broader movement toward the American Revolution.
Militia forces are depicted in the obverse design of 2021 1 oz Colorized American Revolution Battle of Alamance Silver Coins. These individuals have formed up in a combat line and lowered their muskets to take aim at the enemy. The Battle of Alamance was fought between a Royal colonial militia of 1,000 men and an American colonist militia of 2,000 men known as the Regulators.
