Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coins debuted in 1979. The series currently features a total six weights that include 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/10 oz, 1/20 oz, and 1 Gram gold coins. For the first four issues of the coin from 1979 to 1982, the series featured only a 1 oz gold coin with .999 gold purity. It wasn’t until 1982 that additional weights were added, and over the next 32 years, additional options would be added for investors.
On the obverse side of 2021 1 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coins, you will find the image of Queen Elizabeth II. Since 2005, the Canadian Gold Maple Leaf has featured the fourth-generation bust of Elizabeth II that was created in 2003 by Susanna Blunt. It was just the second portrait of a British monarch for Canadian coins ever created by a Canadian artist. The design shows the Queen in right-profile relief without a crown.
The reverse face of the 2021 1 oz Gold Maple Leaf features the sugar maple leaf. The iconic national emblem, the sugar maple leaf is found on the national flag, numerous governmental agency shields, and in the logos of private entities like the NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs and the airline Air Canada. This side of the coin includes the micro-laser engraved maple leaf privy mark that features the “21” date mark inside. The “21” date is only visible under magnification.
