The White Greyhound of Richmond was often used by King Henry VII in his badges and Royal Standards. The greyhound was passed down to Henry VII through his father, Edmund Tudor, who served as the Earl of Richmond. Residents of Northern England favored the white greyhound and it came to be associated with the Honour of Richmond. As such, when King Henry VII came to the throne in 1485 and established the Tudor Dynasty, he brought the White Greyhound of Richmond with him in various symbols.
Queen Elizabeth II features on the obverse side of 2021 1 oz British Gold Queen’s Beast White Greyhound Coins. Her Majesty is shown here in right-profile relief in the definitive fifth-generation portrait during her reign. The design was created in July 2015 by Jody Clark and has been in use on all coins from the Royal Mint starting with those dated 2016. This includes all nine previous design issues of the Queen’s Beast Series.
The White Greyhound of Richmond is shown in the reverse design element of 2021 British Gold Queen’s Beast White Greyhound Coins.
