The 2021 release schedule for American Silver Eagles has been distinguished with the use of Type 1 and Type 2 monikers. Type 1 label refers to the initial batches of 2021-dated coins that featured the heraldic eagle on the reverse. The Type 2 label refers to coins issued from mid-2021 onward using the new reverse design.

Obverse imagery on the 2021 1 oz American Silver Eagle Coins includes the Walking Liberty effigy. Created in 1916 by Adolph A. Weinman, the design shows Liberty in left-profile relief walking toward the sun near a mountain on the horizon. To bring the design closer to Weinman’s original 1916 design, his signature “AW” initials have been added to the obverse field.

Reverse designs on the 2021 American Silver Eagle Type 2 Coins now feature the new American bald eagle image from Emily Damstra. This design was chosen from more than 30 to represent the bald eagle in the continuation of the Silver Eagle Series.
