The American Silver Eagle comes with a new reverse design for the first time in its history in 2021. The new design element on the reverse was created by Emily Damstra to mark the 35th anniversary of the series and replaces John Mercanti’s Heraldic Eagle design that has been in use since 1986. You now have the chance to own both coins in certified perfect condition. Right now, perfect 2021 1 oz American Silver Eagle 2-Coin Sets with Type 1 and Type 2 coins are available to purchase online from JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
Each 2021 1 oz American Silver Eagle 2-Coin Set available here comes with a special American bald eagle label. The eagle is spread across both labels within the two-coin slab, with the head and right wing of the eagle on one label and its tail feathers and left wing on the other label. The coins are both Mint State 70 specimens that exhibit full, original mint luster and have no detracting flaws. The coins are arranged such that the Type 1 and Type 2 reverse fields are side-by-side within the slab along with the Eagle Label.
2021 marks not only the first-ever design change for the American Silver Eagle, but it also marks the first time two different design combinations have been introduced in a single year. From late 2020 when coining began until mid-2021, the Type 1 coins with the original Heraldic Eagle were struck with 2021 dates. From mid-2021 onward, Type 2 coins with the new American bald eagle design were issued by the mint.
The obverse of 2021 American Silver Eagle Coins features the Walking Liberty effigy. Created by Adolph A. Weinman, the design debuted in 1916 on the US half dollar. The Type 2 coins have a new reeded edge with a variation element for anti-counterfeiting and the original “AW” initials of Weinman as a signature mark.
On the reverse of 2021 1 oz Silver Eagle Type 1 Coins is the original Heraldic Eagle. Designed by John Mercanti in 1986, it features a bald eagle in front-facing relief supporting the US national shield. The 2021 Type 2 Silver Eagle depicts an American bald eagle in flight. The eagle has its wings flexed and carries an oak branch in its talons.
