The 2021 issue of American Silver Eagles from the United States Mint was monumental in the history of the series. Since 1986, the coins had been issued annually with no changes to the design elements. In 2021, the US Mint celebrated the official 35th anniversary of the Silver Eagle by redesigning the reverse of the coin for the first time in history. Now, 2021 1 oz American Silver Eagle 2-Coin Sets in perfect condition with Type 1 and Type 2 coins are available online from JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
For the obverse side of 2021 1 oz Silver Eagle Coins, both Type 1 and Type 2, you’ll find the image of Walking Liberty. Designed in 1916 by Adolph A. Weinman, this image shows Liberty in left-profile relief walking toward the horizon with the American flag draped around her figure. This design was initially used on the 1916 Walking Liberty Half Dollar.
In the reverse design of 2021 American Silver Eagles, you’ll find one of two designs. The Type 1 coin features John Mercanti’s original 1986 image of the heraldic eagle, a symbol showcasing the bald eagle in support of the US national shields. The Type 2 coin showcases Emily Damstra’s modern effigy of a bald eagle soaring in flight with a large oak branch in its talons. This debuted on the coins in July 2021.
The shift from the Type 1 to Type 2 coins occurred in the middle of the 2021 release schedule. The US Mint celebrated the 35th anniversary of the series by introducing Emily Damstra’s new reverse design in July 2021. The mint issued 2021 Type 1 coins through June 2021, before pausing production to change out dies in the coining presses so production of the new Type 2 coin could begin.
These 2021 1 oz American Silver Eagle 2-Coin Sets include Type 1 and Type 2 coins in protective plastic slabs with an American flag label in the slab. Both coins are Mint State 70 specimens with full, original mint luster and no detractions. First Strike coins are those the PCGS received for certification within 30 days of release by the mint.
