On the obverse of 2021 American Gold Eagles is the image of Lady Liberty from 1907. Designed by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, this vision of Liberty depicts her figure in front-facing relief holding a large torch up in her right hand as she marches forward carrying an olive branch in her left hand. The design field includes a depiction of the US Capitol Building near her feet with rays of sunshine framing her figure from behind. The entire design element is ringed by a circle of 50 stars, one for each US state.
The reverse side of 2021 1 oz Gold Eagles comes with a depiction of the family of bald eagles for the final time in the series. Designed exclusively for this collection in 1986 by Miley Busiek, the design includes a male eagle in flight above the nest as a female eagle guards a hatchling within the nest.
By mid-2021, the United States Mint will release a redesigned 2021 American Gold Eagle featuring the Liberty design on the obverse with a new American bald eagle design on the reverse of the coin.
