American gold coins had never been struck at a purity level beyond 22-karat gold prior to the release of the American Gold Buffalo. From 1794 to 1834, the US Mint issued the so-called Crown gold alloy of 22-karat gold with coins feature .9167 gold content and a mixture of all silver, all copper, or both to complete the metallic content of the coins. When the American Gold Eagle entered production in 1986, it featured 22-karat gold with 5.33% copper and 3% silver. The American Gold Buffalo was the first coin in the history of the mint with 99.99% pure gold.
All of these 2021 1 oz American Gold Buffalo Coins are available to you in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The coins will either ship inside of an individual plastic flip or a mint tube of 20 coins.
On the obverse side of 2021 American Gold Buffalo Coins is a depiction of an indigenous tribal figure. The right-profile bust of this figure was created by James Earle Fraser in 1913 by combining the facial features and characteristics of American Indian leaders Big Tree, Iron Tail, and Two Moons. The design depicts a figure with hair woven into braids and feathers at the back of his head.
The reverse face of 2021 1 oz American Gold Buffalo Coins includes an image of the American bison. Central to the life of tribes from the American Plains and Mountain West, the American bison is the largest land mammal on the North American continent. Known as a buffalo in America, the bison is featured here in left-profile relief standing on a small mound of dirt.
The inspiration for the design on the American Gold Buffalo Coin comes from the Buffalo Nickel. In production for circulation from 1913 to 1938, the Buffalo Nickel imagery was created by James Earle Fraser.
