In 2021, the Type 1 design notation identified American Gold Eagle Coins with the original Miley Busiek design. Introduced on the coins in 1986, Miley Busiek’s design was issued through mid-2021 before a new bald eagle design debuted on the reverse for the 35th anniversary.
Lady Liberty is on the obverse of the 2021 1/4 oz Gold Eagle Type 1 Coin. This portrait from Augustus Saint-Gaudens was created in 1907 and revived in 1986 for this series. The design depicts Liberty in front-facing relief with a torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other.
An American bald eagle family is on the reverse of 2021 American Gold Eagle Type 1 Coins. In this design from Miley Busiek, a male eagle soars over the nest with an olive branch in its talons as a female eagle guards the hatchlings in the nest.
These 2021 1/4 oz American Gold Eagle Coins are in near-perfect condition. Coins with a Mint State 69 grade showcase full, original mint luster and no more than two minor detractions. These flaws must be located outside the primary focal points of the coin and are limited to minuscule contact marks or hairlines.
