From 1967 to 1980, the South African Mint and Rand Refinery issued the South African Gold Krugerrand only in a 1 oz gold option. Starting in 1980, the mint and refinery introduced fractional-ounce gold coins into the collection. The introduction of these coins rounded out the series to put the Krugerrand ahead of other releases in the years to come.
