The Proof Mexican Gold Libertad Series at the Mexican Mint features a total of five weights. These are the same five weights available in the BU Gold Libertad Series and the options consist of a 1 oz gold coin paired with four fractional-ounce coins. This effigy of Victory captures the Angel of Independence as she appears atop the Mexican Independence Victory Column. The statue of Victory was created in 1910, marking the centennial of the nation’s war of independence against Spain. It was placed atop the Victory Column in Mexican City upon its completion in 1921, the date that marks the centennial of independence.
For the reverse design of 2021 1/2 oz Proof Gold Libertad Coins, the mint features the Mexican coat of arms. This design shows a golden eagle perched on a prickly pear cactus as it battles with a serpent. There is an oak-and-laurel wreath beneath the design.
