The American Gold Eagles from the United States Mint are available to purchase in four weights each year. Though the 1 oz gold coin is often considered the primary coins in the series, investors purchase all four weights on a regular basis. Among the fractional-ounce coins, the 1/2 oz gold coin is the largest. Today, 2021 1/2 oz American Gold Eagle Type 2 Coins are available to you online from JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
American Gold Eagle Coins are produced by the US Mint using a 22-karat gold alloy. Historically, the very first gold coins from the US Mint were struck in 22-karat gold. In the 1830s, the gold content changed twice, first dropping below 90% gold and then settling on a mixture of 90% gold and 10% copper from 1837 to 1933. The 22-karat gold content of modern American Gold Eagles includes 91.67% gold, 5.33% copper, and 3% silver.
All of these 2021 American Gold Eagles are available to you in protective plastic flips or plastic tubes of 40 coins. The coins are available in Brilliant Uncirculated condition and come with a new reverse design of the bald eagle from Jennie Norris, a member of the United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program.
Obverse designs on the 2021 1/2 oz Gold Eagle include Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ iconic Liberty design. In this historic image from the 1907 $20 Double Gold Eagle, Liberty is seen in front-facing relief clutching an olive branch of peace in her left hand and a torch in her right hand. Rays of sunshine frame her figure from the background as a ring of stars encircles the design field.
Reverse imagery on the new 2021 1/2 oz American Gold Eagle Type 2 Coins features the American bald eagle. This new design from Jennie Norris shows the eagle’s head in left-profile relief as its eye gazes right through you. The new design is incredibly detailed with each individual feather seemingly visible to the eye on the field of the coin.
