American Gold Eagle coins released in 2021 came with Type 1 and Type 2 releases. The Type 1 release offered investors the original design combinations with Lady Liberty on the obverse and the family of bald eagles on the reverse. The Type 2 release brought with it the new design element on the reverse. Now, 2021 1/2 oz American Gold Eagle Coins in near-perfect condition are available to you for purchase online from JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
In late 2019, the United States Mint announced its intention to refresh the reverse design elements on the American Silver Eagle and American Gold Eagle. While the intention was to launch the new designs right away in 2021 to mark the 35th anniversary of the series, the COVID-19 pandemic got in the way.
The process of selecting a new design for the reverse included reviewing more than 30 different designs from members of the United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program. In the end, the US Mint and a citizen committee of reviewers chose the image of an American bald eagle head from Jennie Norris.
The obverse of 2021 1/2 oz American Gold Eagle Coins features a depiction of Lady Liberty. This iconic design first appeared on the $20 Gold Double Eagle Coin from 1907 to 1933. In this design, Liberty is shown in front-facing relief as she marches forward with a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left hand.
On the reverse side of 2021 1/2 Gold Eagles is a new vision of the American bald eagle. The new design from Jennie Norris depicts an eagle’s head in left-profile relief. There is an incredible level of detail in the new design, with each individual feather in the bird’s plumage easily visible.
These 2021 1/2 oz American Gold Eagle Type 2 Coins are available in near-perfect condition. Coins in Mint State 69 condition showcase full, original mint luster with a maximum of two minor detracting flaws. Examples of acceptable flaws include only minuscule contact marks or hairlines found outside of the primary focal points of the coin. Early Release specimens are those received for grading within 30 days of the original release of the coins.
