For 35 years, the United States Mint issued the American Gold Eagle Coins with the same design elements on the obverse and reverse. To mark the landmark 35th anniversary of the series in 2021, the US Mint debuted its first-ever overhaul of a major design element on the coin. Today, certified-perfect 2021 1/10 oz American Gold Eagle Type 2 Coins are available to you online from JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
The 2021 release of Gold Eagles started in January with the Type 1 coins, a term used to differentiate between the 2021-dated coins with the original design elements and the 2021-dated coins with the new reverse design. In order to ensure continuity of supply in the market, the US Mint delayed the switch to the new design until the summer of 2021. The US Mint briefly suspended coining in June and July of 2021 to switch out dies in its coining presses and start striking 2021 Gold Eagles with the new reverse from Jennie Norris.
All of the 2021 1/10 oz American Gold Eagle Type 2 Coins in this listing earned perfect certifications. Coins with a Mint State 70 grade have full, original mint luster and come with no detracting flaws of any kind on the designs and fields. The Early Release designation is for coins received for grading within the first 30 days of release by the US Mint.
On the obverse of 2021 American Gold Eagle Type 2 Coins is a depiction of Liberty. This design with her full-length figure set in front-facing relief was created in 1907 by Augustus Saint-Gaudens and featured on the $20 Gold Double Eagle Coins until 1933.
The reverse side of 2021 1/10 oz Gold Eagle Type 2 Coins comes with the brand-new design of an American bald eagle. Replacing Miley Busiek’s design with a family of bald eagles, the new design from Jennie Norris captures the natural beauty and power of the bald eagle. Its head is shown in left-profile relief with a steely gaze and minute details in its plumage.
