It depicts Liberty in left-profile relief as she walks from right to left across the design element toward the sun. The American flag is draped around her figure and she carries branches of oak and laurel in her left hand.
The reverse side of 2020-W 1 oz Proof Silver Eagles features the heraldic eagle. A historic design first used on American coins in 1795, this is the latest modification of the design and was completed in 1986 by John Mercanti for the release of this series. The design captures a front-facing bald eagle supporting the US national shield. The bird clutches the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace in its talons. There is a triangular cluster of 13 stars over its head representing the original American colonies.
