The Proof American Eagle Gold Coins are available in four weights each year that include 1 oz gold and three fractional-ounce choices. The fractional-ounce coins were introduced in 1987 and 1988 with the 1/2 oz gold coin representing the first fractional-ounce introduced and the largest of the three. Right now, 2020-W 1/2 oz Proof American Gold Eagle Coins are available to purchase online from JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
Each 2020-W 1/2 oz Proof American Gold Eagle Coin in this product listing comes to you with a protective presentation case to house the coin. These coins are also available with a Certificate of Authenticity from the US Mint.
American Gold Eagles include 22-karat gold content. With such a gold content, each coin has 91.67% gold content and, in the case of US Mint coins, the remainder of the metal content consists of 5.33% copper and 3% silver. The American Gold Eagle is no longer the purest gold coin from the US Mint, as that title goes to the American Gold Buffalo, but when it was introduced it was the purest gold coin the US Mint had struck since 1834 and the first since 1933.
On the obverse side of 2020-W 1/2 oz Proof American Gold Eagle Coins, you will find the image of Liberty. This front-facing depiction of Liberty was created in 1907 by Augustus Saint-Gaudens and features her effigy walking toward the viewer with a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left.
The reverse of 2020-W 1/2 oz Proof American Gold Eagles bears the image of a family of American bald eagles. This design is exclusive to the American Gold Eagle and was created in 1986 by Miley Busiek. It depicts a male eagle flying over the nest as a female rests in the nest with a hatchling.
All Proof American Gold Eagles have a mint mark from the US Mint facility that strikes it. Since 2001, all Proof Gold Eagles are produced at the West Point Mint with a “W” mint mark on the obverse.
