Silver Elephant coins from the Bavarian State Mint were originally introduced in 1999 as the Zambian Elephant. Though the moniker “African Wildlife Series” remains to this day, in 2004 the coins shifted away from Zambia to Somalia. Originally, the coins were only offered as 1 oz coins. Though 1 Kilo coins were first introduced, 2016 saw the introduction of fractional weights in silver, as well as 2 oz, 5 oz, and 10 oz coins.
All 2020 5 oz Somalia Silver Elephant Coins are available to you with a protective plastic capsule. The coins come in Brilliant Uncirculated condition and offer another new design in this iconic program.
On the obverse of 2020 5 oz Somalia Silver Elephant Coin is a vision of the coat of arms for Somalia. In the center is the crowned shield with a background of horizontal lines and a single star. The star is reminiscent of the national flag of Somalia which boasts a field of blue with a single white star.
The crowned shield is supported on either side by a leopard with crossed spears draped in fern leaves below the shield. Above the shield is the inscription of “Somali Republic,” with the face value below the shield and a beaded design rim.
For the reverse field of 2020 Somalia Silver Elephant Coins, a new design of the African bush elephant is available. This visual includes Mount Kilimanjaro in the distant background with two elephants staring directly at each other in the foreground. Both African bush elephants are adults, though the one on the left is much older as noted by the longer ivory tusks it has growing from its face.
