During the height of the Impressionist art movement in the late 19th century, the Connecticut farmland of an artist named Julian Alden Weir would provide a major home base and source of inspiration for painters of the school, and ultimately went on to nurture multiple generations of American masters. Preserved in pristine condition today as the Weir Farm National Historic Site, it contains historic buildings, gardens, terraces, orchards, fields, stone laid walls, and numerous sites where the painters themselves worked and public art classes now run.
That landscape is the inspiration for the 2020 ATB Weir Farm National Historic Site Silver Coin. JM Bullion is offering this prized collectors’ coin in proof-like condition, with a satiny luster and a mirror-like quality. It arrives in its own individual protective plastic slab with a near-perfect grade. Mint State 69 coins showcase full, original mint luster with no more than two minor flaws. Acceptable flaws at this grade are limited to minuscule contact marks or hairlines that must be located outside the primary focal points of the coin.
The obverse side features the classic profile portrait of George Washington that has graced American circulation quarters for the past eight decades. The image is accompanied by the inscriptions “United States of America,” “Liberty,” “In God We Trust,” and “Quarter Dollar.”
The reverse side features an artist in a painter’s smock working outside the studio of the site’s founder and namesake, Julian Alden Weir. The inscriptions “A National Park for Art,” “Weir Farm,” “Connecticut,” “2020” and “E Pluribus Unum” accompany the image.
