Officially known as the Virgin Islands of the United States, the group of Caribbean islands consists of the three main islands of Saint Croix, Saint John, and Saint Thomas. There are also numerous, smaller surrounding islands that make up the chain. The islands are an unincorporated and organized territory of the United States.
All of the 2020 5 oz ATB Salt River Bay National Historical Park and Preserve Silver Coins available to you in this product listing arrive in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. Individual coins are housed inside of protective capsules. For multiples, the coins are housed in mint tubes of 10 coins or Monster Boxes of 100 coins. The Monster Box contains a total of 10 coin tubes with 10 coins per tube.
On the obverse side of 2020 5 oz ATB Salt River Bay National Historical Park and Preserve Silver Coins is the image of President George Washington. The first elected President of the United States, Washington served two terms and stepped down voluntarily after his second term, a code of honor among future presidents that would continue without the need for legislation until the 20th century. This is a modern version of the original 1932 bust of Washington that John Flanagan created for the US quarter.
The reverse face of 2020 ATB Salt River Bay National Historical Park and Preserve Silver Coins includes a depiction of a young red mangrove tree in the US Virgin Islands. The red mangrove tree is a symbol of one of the most important ecological items protected by the National Historical Park and Ecological Preserve. The park protects just 945 acres, but helps preserve upland watersheds, mangrove forests, and other environments.
Salt River National Historical Park and Ecological Preserve has the dual-title as it contains the National Historic Landmark of the Columbus Landing Site. This marks the only known site where members of Christopher Columbus’ expedition set foot on what is now US territory.
