The Boston Massacre was one of the moments that helped foment in the concept of the American Revolution in the minds of Colonists. The people of Boston were known for pushing back on unpopular Parliamentary legislation passed in London and enforced on the Colonists without any opportunity to represent themselves in Parliament.
On March 5, 1770, a group of American Colonists began to verbally abuse a British sentry. A troop of seven British soldiers under the command of Captain Thomas Preston arrived to reinforce the sentry and protect him from the colonists. As the colonists continued to harass the soldiers, one member of the group lost composure and fired upon the colonists. As a result, all of the soldiers fired upon the colonists. Three were killed immediately and two more later died from wounds.
