The Queen’s Beast Series initially featured a 2 oz silver bullion coin, a 1 oz gold coin, and a 1/4 oz gold coin. Following the popular 2016 debut of the coins, the Royal Mint expanded the collection with a 2017 introduction of the same designs on 10 oz silver bullion blanks and 1 oz platinum bullion blanks. The designs are, as a result, behind in release with the 10 oz silver and 1 oz platinum coins appearing slightly later than their silver and gold counterparts.
On the obverse side of 2020 10 oz British Silver Queen’s Beast Falcon Coins is the image of Queen Elizabeth II. This is the fifth-generation effigy of Her Majesty to feature on British coinage. It was created in 2015 by Jody Clark of the Royal Mint and debuted on 2016 date marked coins. It features the Queen wearing the Royal Diadem crown upon her head.
The reverse of 2020 British Silver Queen’s Beast Falcon Coins includes the design of a giant falcon clutching a royal shield with the White Falcon of the Plantagenets on it. The falcon on the shield clutches a fetterlock that is open. The use of an open fetterlock in heraldic arms indicates a monarch’s legitimate claim to the throne.
King Edward III, one of the early Plantagenet kings of England, brought the white falcon to the royal arms. He was a fan of hawking and used the white falcon as his personal seal, as did his great-great-grandson King Edward IV.
