The Australian Mother & Baby coins from the Perth Mint are part of a collection known as the Next Generation Series. The term next-generation points to the image of a mother showing love and compassion for its offspring, the next generation. In addition to the beautiful designs of the series, the Next Generation Series coins are piedfort specimens. Today, 2020 10 oz Australian Mother and Baby Kookaburra Silver Coins are available to you online from JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
The kookaburra is the largest member of the kingfisher species and is common throughout much of Australia. The birds are common to water across the broader species, with members of the kookaburra family found in urban areas near major cities and in the Outback. The sound of the kookaburra’s laugh is common to audio soundtracks of the Outback.
All of the 2020 10 oz Australian Mother and Baby Kookaburra Silver Coins in this product listing come in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The coins are packaged individually inside of protective plastic capsules. The piedfort production of the coin refers to the French term identifying “heavyweight” in coins. These 10 oz silver coins have the same diameter as traditional 10 oz silver bullion coins but are much thicker blanks.
Queen Elizabeth II is depicted on the obverse face of the 2020 10 oz Mother and Baby Kookaburra Silver Coin. In this design, the Queen is shown in right-profile relief wearing the George IV State Diadem Crown and is aged 89 years old. This is the fifth-generation design from the Royal Mint of England and the sixth-generation effigy used on Australian coins. It is also the first since 1966 to include the Queen’s greater neckline and shoulders in the bust.
A mother kookaburra is shown caring for her young chick on the reverse of 2020 Mother and Baby Kookaburra Silver Coins. The mother kookaburra is standing just behind the chick which has its mouth open and is ready to be fed. Both sides of the coin have radial lines in the background field and the reverse has two mint marks. There is a visible “P” mintmark from the Perth Mint, with another microscopic security feature visible only under magnification that reflects another “P” mintmark.
