St. Vincent & the Grenadines, commonly referred to as simply St. Vincent, is an island nation in the southeast of the Windward Islands within the Lesser Antilles. The island is located at the southern reaches of the Caribbean Sea where it meets with the Atlantic Ocean. Boasting just 142 square miles of land, the nation consists of the main island of St. Vincent and the 32 smaller chain islands known as the Grenadines. Many of the islands within the Grenadines chain are not inhabited.
The obverse of 2020 1 oz St. Vincent & the Grenadines Silver Coins features the Scottsdale Mint’s exclusive Queen Elizabeth II design for this series. The center of the design features the Ian Rank-Broadley bust of Queen Elizabeth II in right-profile relief. The Queen’s effigy is flanked by fern leaves that cross at the bottom below her portrait.
On the reverse side of 2020 St. Vincent & the Grenadines Silver Coins is the Pax et Justitia design, or the national coat of arms for the nation. The seal is based on a previous colonial badge used for 72 years in the 20th century and bears the Latin name for the national motto, a phrase that translates into English as “Peace and Justice.” In the design, a woman on the left stands and extends an olive branch over a woman who is kneeling and holding the scales of justice over a golden altar.
