The Great Hammerhead Shark is one of the largest predators in the oceans of the world. A member of the broader hammerhead shark species, the Great Hammerhead is the largest member of the group and can grow to a maximum length of 20 feet. Most Great Hammerheads are found in the tropical and warm, temperate waters of the oceans. They typically inhabit coastal areas, as well as the continental shelf.
Although Great Hammerhead Sharks are apex predators in their habitat range, eating crustaceans, cephalopods, bony fish, and smaller sharks, it is rare that it attacks humans. Interactions between Great Hammerheads and human divers is often of an inquisitive nature, but given the size of these beasts, the sharks should always be respected.

This is the fourth-generation Royal Mint of England design created in 1998 by Ian Rank-Broadley. Also included on this side is the individual serial number of the coin, its weight, purity, and metal content.

Great Hammerheads are distinguishable from other species of hammerheads courtesy of wider, straighter “hammers” at the front of the head and a sickle-shaped dorsal fin. These coins are reverse proof specimens with frosted background fields and mirrored design features.
