Each 2020 1 oz Congo Whale Silver Coin available to you in this product listing comes from the Brilliant Uncirculated release of the 2020 Whale Coins. In total, 30,000 of these silver coins were produced, with 5,000 BU coins available with this gilded layer. A gilded coin has a select, thin application of 24-karat gold on design elements to create visual contrast. Each coin available here comes with an individual plastic capsule.
The Worlds Wildlife Series launched in 2019 with the Giraffe coin. Like its predecessor, the new 2020 Whale Silver Coin is available as a traditional BU silver coin, a colorized silver coin, and in this gilded release. The 2020 Whale showcases the largest living mammal in the world today.
On the obverse side of 2020 Congo Whale Silver Coins includes the national coat of arms for the Democratic Republic of Congo. Long known as Zaire, the Congo has a coat of arms that is rare in its lack of a shield within the design. Instead, the image features a leopards head in front-facing relief with an elephant tusk on one side and a spear on the other.
The reverse field of 2020 Congo Whale Silver Coins features an image of the blue whale as it breaches the surface of the ocean. Known as the Antarctic blue whale, the species is capable of growing to a weight of some 400,000 pounds and can reach up to 98 feet in overall length. When compared to the worlds largest land mammal by weight, the African bush elephant, one Antarctic blue whale is the equivalent of 33 elephants!
