Coin Highlights:
The 1928 Chinese Auto Dollar coin, officially known as the Kweichow Province silver dollar, is one of the most famous and valuable Chinese commemorative coins ever produced. Commissioned by warlord Zhou Xicheng to celebrate the completion of Kweichow Province’s first highway, the coin features Zhou’s personal Packard automobile on the obverse.
All 2020 1 oz Chinese Silver Kweichow Auto Dollar Coins are available here with protective plastic capsules. The coins had a limited mintage of 5,000 coins and honor the 1928 coin. The 1928 coin was the showpiece of a regional warlord, with the coin issued to honor the Kweichow Province’s first highway at a time when no one other than Zhou owned an automobile.
The obverse of 2020 Chinese Silver Kweichow Auto Dollars comes with a depiction of Zhou’s Packard. Zhou Xicheng’s Packard automobile, immortalized on the 1928 Auto Dollar coin, represented a powerful symbol of modernity and Western influence in what was then a remote and underdeveloped Chinese province. The American-made luxury vehicle, likely a Packard Six model popular among wealthy Chinese elites of the era, was clearly a prized possession that Zhou chose to feature prominently on official currency
On the reverse of 2020 1 oz Silver Kweichow Auto Dollar Coins, a poppy flower is at the center and is surrounded by Chinese characters. Zhou Xicheng was a provincial warlord who controlled Kweichow Province in southwestern China during the tumultuous Warlord Era of the 1920s. As the region’s de facto ruler during the fractured Republican period when central government control was weak, he made most of his income from opium, which is derived from the poppy.
