The meeting point with the Jade Emperor was on the other side of a river and the rat got the ox to give it a ride across the river, but as they approached the finish line the rat jumped off to finish first.
On the reverse of 2020 1 oz British Gold Lunar Year of the Rat Coin is the image of a rat in a field as designed by PJ Lynch. The design element captures the rat as it pauses amidst the foliage to forage for food. The rat raises its head and snout into the air to sniff out any potential threats.
The obverse of 2020 British Gold Lunar Year of the Rat Coins bears the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. This is the fifth-generation portrait for British coinage and was created in July 2015 by Jody Clark. The design captures the Queen at the age of 89 wearing the Royal Diadem crown.
