The Australian Rectangular Silver Dragon coin debuted in 2018, first as a silver coin for sale and later in the year with a gold coin as well. The series launched with a mintage of 500,000 that has subsequently been lowered for the 2019 and 2020 releases to just 250,000 coins.
The obverse face of the 2020 Australian Rectangular Silver Dragon coins includes the latest effigy of Queen Elizabeth II to feature on Australian coinage. While the 2018 release included the Ian Rank-Broadley design, the 2019 and these 2020 coins have the new sixth-generation portrait of Elizabeth II. Here, the Queen is shown in right-profile relief with the ornate George IV State Diadem Crown on her head. This image was initially created for the Royal Mint of England in 2015 by Jody Clark and has been adapted for Australian coins as of 2019.
On the reverse side of 2020 1 oz Australian Rectangular Silver Dragon coins, you will find a brand-new image for the 2020 release. In this design, two dragons pursue the flaming pearl at the center of the design field. The background has a beautiful blank finish that keeps the eye focused on the dragons. There is a “P” mint mark in the lower-left field of the reverse.
