Coin Highlights:
The Armenian Noah’s Ark Series is produced by the German mint Geiger Edelmetalle. Geiger has a rich history in Germany that dates back more than 800 years in the Leipzig region of Germany. The mint is well-known for its silver and gold bullion bars, and in 2011 introduced the bullion coin series we know today as the Noah’s Ark Series.
Introduced for the Republic of Armenia in silver, the collection featured 1 oz, 1/2 oz, and 1/4 oz silver bullion coins in its first year of availability. In 2012, that series gained 5 oz, 10 oz, 1 Kilo, and 5 Kilo coin options. Now, 2020 brings with it four new gold coins in the collection that include 1 Gram, 1/4 oz, 1/2 oz, and these 1 oz gold coins.
The Armenian coat of arms is featured on the obverse of 2020 1 oz Armenian Gold Noah’s Ark Coins. The national emblem was adopted in 1992 by the country, and enshrined and protected in law by its parliament in 2006. The seal includes a quartered shield that is supported by an eagle on the left and a lion on the right. The center of the quartered shield has a seal with a depiction of Noah’s ark resting on the peak of Mount Ararat.
Noah’s ark is found in a beautifully artistic rendition on the reverse side of 2020 Armenian Gold Noah’s Ark coins. This design was created for the silver series by Eduart Kurghingyan and shows the ark on the floodwaters during the biblical apocalypse spoken of in the Book of Genesis.
