The American Gold Eagle coin debuted in 1986 with bullion and proof versions available. Both of these versions of the coin come with 1 oz gold, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz options. The bullion series had all four weights right away in 1986, while the proof coin saw those weights introduced in 1986, 1987, and 1988.
A third coin was added to the series in 2006 in the form of the burnished Gold Eagle that is available only in 1 oz gold. For bullion coins, you can find the specimens available with certifications each year as well.
Lady Liberty as designed by Augustus Saint-Gaudens is found on the obverse of 2020 1 oz American Gold Eagle coins. This iconic image depicts Liberty as never seen prior to 1907. Her free-flowing figure walks toward the viewer with her hair and robe flowing in the breeze. She wields a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left.
American bald eagles, the national emblem, feature on the reverse of 2020 American Gold Eagle coins. This design is exclusive to the American Gold Eagle and was created in 1986 by Miley Busiek. It features a male eagle flying over the nest as a female guards a young hatchling within the nest.
These 2020 1 oz American Gold Eagle Coins come with Mint State 70 certifications. Known as perfect specimens, each one has full, original mint luster and no detracting flaws of any kind present. First Strike labels indicate these coins were received for grading within the original 30 days following issue by the US Mint.
