The Chinese Gold Panda Coin is available from the Chinese Mint on an annual basis with five weights in total. When it was first introduced, the series included 1 oz gold, 1 2 oz gold, 1 4 oz gold, and 1 10 oz gold. The series grew in 1983 to include the 1/20 oz gold coin. As of 2016, all of those weights have been transitioned to the Gram weights with the 1 Gram Gold Panda replacing the 1/20 oz coin.
For the obverse field of the 2020 1 Gram Chinese Gold Panda Coin, you will find a design of the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests that has been used on this field of the coins since 1982. The building is the largest in the Temple of Heaven Complex.
In the reverse design element of 2020 1 Gram Chinese Gold Panda Coins, the Chinese Mint debuts another new design in 2020. Designed by Song Lina, a native of northeastern China, the image depicts a young Giant Panda cub on its back playing with bamboo leaves.
The Chinese Gold Panda coins are popular, in part, because the Chinese Mint uses new designs on the reverse field each year. The only time this did not hold true was in 2002 when the design element from the 2001 issue of the coins was repeated. After a boisterous uproar from investors, the Chinese Mint returned to using new designs each year.
