American Gold Eagle 1/2 oz coins have the lowest mintage figures in the series each year. The highest single-year sales figure for the 1/2 oz Gold Eagle remains its debut issue from 1986, with recent years prior to the 2020 issue experiencing significant drops from recent highs in 2015. The 2015 Gold Eagle 1/2 oz coin had a mintage of 75,000 coins.
Since that release, the 1/2 oz Gold Eagle has dropped significantly. Although the 2016 coin was down just 1,000 specimens, the 2017 coins had fallen by half to 37,000. By 2019, demand for the 1/2 oz Gold Eagle had dropped in half again to just 19,000 coins. Regardless of gold prices and demand, the 1/2 oz Gold Eagle remains a staple for many investors each year.
On the obverse of 2020 1/2 oz American Gold Eagles is the image of Lady Liberty. This iconic design was created in 1907 by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. It was used on the $20 Gold Double Eagle from 1907 to 1933 when all gold coining was halted in the United States. In this design, Liberty showcases the bright hope for the future as she guides the nation into the future with her torch held high to light the way.
The reverse of 2020 American Gold Eagle Coins includes an image from Miley Busiek. This design includes a male eagle in flight over the nest as a female eagle guards over a young hatchling in the nest.
These 2020 1/2 oz American Gold Eagle Coins are housed inside protective plastic flips while multiples of 40 coins are offered inside tubes.
