Proof Mexican Gold Libertads are available to purchase each year in five weights. While three of these weights were available once each before 2005, the two smallest weights were only introduced in 2005, more than 20 years after the first coins in the series. One of those two smaller weights is the 1/10 oz gold coin. Right now, 2020 1/10 oz Proof Mexican Gold Libertad Coins are available to purchase online from JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
Each 2020 1/10 oz Proof Mexican Gold Libertad Coin listed here at JM Bullion is available with proof visuals. The proof coins from the Mexican Mint are produced with frosted visual elements and mirrored background fields. Each coin is housed in its own individual acrylic capsule.
Proof Mexican Gold Libertads were introduced in 1983 with just 88 specimens of the 1 oz gold coin released. Another Proof Gold Libertad was not issued until 1989 when a 1/2 oz gold coin was released with a mintage of 704 coins. The next release of the Proof Gold Libertad came in 2004 with the debut of a 1/4 oz gold coin. Starting in 2005, the Mexican Mint issued the coins annually and introduced 1/10 oz and 1/20 gold coins at the same time.
The obverse of 2020 Proof Mexican Gold Libertads comes with a depiction of Winged Victory. Based on the effigies of the ancient Roman and Greek goddesses of victory, Winged Victory is a symbol of Mexico’s freedom from Spain. Her effigy is shown here at the top of the Mexican Independence Victory Column with a crown wreath in one hand and broken chains in the other hand. The mountains of Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl feature in the background field.
On the reverse side of 2020 1/10 oz Proof Gold Libertad is the Mexican coat of arms. The modern coat of arms for Mexico was modified in 1968 and has featured on national coins since that time. It depicts a golden eagle with a rattlesnake in its beak and talons. The eagle is perched on a prickly pear cactus with a wreath of oak and laurel found below.
Founded in 1535, the Mexican Mint is the oldest mint in the Americas. The mint once produced colonial Spanish currency for the European power’s colonies throughout the Western Hemisphere.
